How to Clean the Carpet in Winter

Nov. 17, 2020

Common carpets generally include pure wool (usually sheep wool, with natural lanolin, good elasticity, softness, and luster), chemical fiber (using synthetic fibers, including acrylic, nylon, polypropylene, etc., with good abrasion resistance), blended ( It is woven with wool fiber and synthetic fiber, which has better abrasion resistance than pure wool carpet and is more cost-effective), cotton, linen, and silk.

How often is it appropriate to clean the carpet?

Many students have a misunderstanding about the carpet, always feel that it does not need to be cleaned frequently. In fact, if you step on it frequently, the surface fiber of the carpet is the easiest place to "hide dirt". If dust accumulates for a long time, the surface of the carpet is prone to problems such as discoloration, mold, and odor. In particular, wool carpets are relatively poor in insect resistance, bacteria resistance, and moisture resistance (the key is expensive), and they require careful care.

Therefore, in addition to a carpet "cleaning" every time the season changes, it is recommended that everyone use a vacuum cleaner to vacuum the carpet at home in 2-3 days. Vacuum cleaners can handle most dust and life debris.

When using a vacuum cleaner, remember to follow the direction of the fluff fibers on the fabric felt mat, especially wool carpets or blended carpets, otherwise, it is easy to damage the surface of the carpet and affect the appearance.

After the large area is cleaned, it is best to clean the corners under the coffee table and the bed that is easy to accumulate dust again. You can wipe it with a damp cloth or sweep twice with a wet broom, and then evenly sprinkle it on. Baking soda or table salt, let it fully absorb the dust, dry it, and then vacuum it up.

Of course, just pursuing surface cleanliness is not my style. In addition to daily cleaning, removing mites is also the highlight of blanket care.

Fabric Felt Mat

After all, many times the fleece paint felt will also come into contact with our skin. If it is occupied by mites, it will easily cause skin allergies, and people with rhinitis may suffer from it.

Mites like damp and warm places the most. The fluffy carpet, coupled with the support of floor heating and our body temperature, just provides a good living environment for the mites. Especially the south is relatively humid, and there are more mites.

In addition to frequent cleaning and drying of mites, in fact, the easiest and most convenient way is to choose some vacuum cleaners with mites removal function. If you already have a vacuum cleaner at home, you can also add a mites removal head. The main difference between them and ordinary heads is The suction power is stronger, and it also has an electric brush head for more thorough cleaning.

Which cleaning agent is better?

In addition to daily cleaning, you can also take a shower on the carpet when you are cleaning the season. In fact, many blankets can be washed directly. Dissolve the detergent in water, flatten the carpet, drench it with water, start brushing from one side with a soft brush dipped in the washing solution, and then rinse with running water. Be careful not to use any bleaching agents, which can easily damage the carpet fibers.

In addition, choosing the right detergent is very important!

Many empirical posts recommend that blankets can be cleaned with weak alkaline detergents, but if it is wool or wool blended carpets, alkaline detergents should not be used, but neutral detergents should be used. Other carpets can use general washing powder, liquid detergent (preferably high foam, to facilitate decontamination).

After rinsing, you can use diluted white vinegar (one liter of water + one spoonful of vinegar) to evenly sprinkle on the carpet, which can effectively neutralize the remaining washing liquid and can also sterilize and disinfect the carpet to prevent the carpet from discoloring or fading.

However, although washing carpets can be thoroughly cleaned, the workload is too much, and natural fiber carpets such as wool, cotton, and linen are prone to deformation and hard texture after washing.

If it is not a large area of stubborn stains, it is best not to wash frequently, you can try to use a dry cleaning agent for targeted care.
